*POSITION MANDATE*
Manages the day to day operations of the department and oversees the sales and execution of work. Ensures all department staff are on task and producing quality work while balancing customer demand with available resources. Works to expand the department, improve efficiency, grow the customer base and broaden product and service offerings.
*REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:*
· The incumbent is a technical professional with central responsibility for the business growth of services.
· Provides leadership to the department with core accountabilities for business results, the quality of technical deliverables, customer relations, and staff productivity and development.
· Possesses an understanding and knowledge of how departmental operations fit into those of other units, and develops strong relationships/networks with other managers and leaders within TPS to achieve internal and external objectives.
· Holds logistical and supervisory responsibility for departmental resources (human, financial, physical).
· Drives the department?s successful operations by working through others.
· Provides leadership and advice, and influences the course for the department by developing and implementing plans, policies and services.
· Recruits and develops department staff, with particular attention to direct reports who are accountable for developing others.
· Draws on the expertise of others and consults as appropriate.
· Makes final decisions on recommendations from others and is accountable for subsequent results.
*BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:*
· Registered Engineering Professional (P.Eng) or Engineering Licensee in the Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial fields.
· Minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience including supervisory or managerial experience. (An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
· Budget management in excess of $5M annually
· Solid understanding of operations and business process with proven project management experience.
· Well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiations, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
· Leadership skills with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with employees, supervisors, managers, outside resources, and stakeholders.
· Motivated, energetic, goal-oriented, with a strong work ethic and positive team attitude
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
*WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLL:*
· *Leadership:* You will be in charge of managing one or more engineering teams as team members work together to complete projects. Strong leadership skills are essential for boosting morale, resolving conflicts, assigning team members roles in which they are most likely to succeed, and encouraging and maintaining team productivity.
· *Customer Service: *You will ensure departmental capacity is sufficient to meet customer demands and provide outstanding customer service. Assist in initiating and developing new customer relationships while strengthening existing relationships. Work collaboratively to listen to customers with an ear for opportunities to offer new or improved products and services. Ensure timely and successful completion of projects.
· *Administration and Finance:* You will develop annual department department operational plans, budgets and provide projections based on revenue and anticipated business streams. You will monitor department overhead and project budgets by assessing actual versus projected, and adjusting resource allocations and other mechanisms as required.
· *Resources:* You will ensure your teams are adequately supervised and trained in order for the department to be successful. To ensure ensure customer demands are met in a timely fashion, you will ensure that particular attention is paid to available job skills and adjust departmental resources where necessary.
