This is a great opportunity to join our team and shape our community.Planner 2 (Seniors)Reporting directly to the Manager, Community Social Development, the Planner 2 (Seniors) in Community Social Development is responsible for driving strategy, policy and initiatives related to the City?s approach to supporting Richmond?s seniors, and ensuring the City is planning for an age-resilient community. This position provides leadership and subject matter expertise for the 55+ years age demographic - providing expert advice to the City, community partners and local community agencies.The position provides leadership and functional guidance as it relates to carrying out the actions outlined in the City of Richmond Seniors Strategy and Dementia-Friendly Community Action Plan to City staff, Community Associations and Societies, and other seniors-serving organizations in Richmond. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing seniors-related policies and initiatives; establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with community-based organizations; liaising with provincial and federal partners; analyzing and interpreting a variety of qualitative and quantitative data to support the understanding of complex and diverse social issues; and researching, applying for and managing government grants related to seniors. The incumbent interacts with City Council, various City departments, external agencies and staff from senior levels of government; and prepares reports, memos and presentations to Council and the City?s senior management team.The incumbent provides direction to Planner 1 and Planning Assistant positions by assigning and delegating work, coaching and mentoring, and ensuring quality and service standards are met. The work is distinguished from that of Planner 1, in that more complex tasks of considerable scope and magnitude are performed. The Incumbent is expected to exercise considerable initiative and is permitted considerable independent judgement in developing, completing and administering programs and projects.Key Responsibilities:Responsible for oversight and implementation of the City of Richmond Seniors Strategy and Dementia-Friendly Community Action Plan, working with staff from City departments, Community Association and Society staff, and community-based seniors-serving organizations in Richmond. Provides complex, specialized information, options and recommendations to City Council, the City?s senior management team and other City departments on seniors-related issues; and in the development and implementation of City-wide strategies, policies, projects and programs. Prepares reports for presentation by the Director, Community Social Development and Manager, Social Development to senior management and City Council. Provides subject matter expertise and process expertise to enhance the City's capacity to collaborate with key stakeholders and work towards advancing seniors policy and initiatives in Richmond. Provides a first point of contact for tactical and strategic response to complex issues related to seniors occurring within the City and/or community.
