The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.
CLSI is now accepting applications for a Mechanical Technologist. Reporting to the Mechanical Operations Lead, the Mechanical Technologist is responsible for the assembly, installation and maintenance of components, instruments, and equipment for the CLS Facility.
*About our facility:*
Our facility is centrally located on the beautiful grounds of the University of Saskatchewan within walking distance of Saskatoon?s riverbank trails and close to campus amenities such as fitness facilities, restaurants, museums, and galleries.
As the majority of the work is located inside our research centre, almost all of your duties will take place within our facility and there will be limited travel.
*What your 8am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday will look like:*
You will support the team with building maintenance and upgrades for the facility, including upgrades and maintenance of our beamlines that our visiting researchers use with the support of our scientists. This will include:
* Servicing precision assembly of mechanical components including installation, manufacturing, maintenance, tests and repairs.
* Engaging in technical system maintenance including troubleshooting and diagnostics of mechanical and/or technical equipment or machinery.
* Interpreting and implementing plans, drawings and specifications related to installation, modification, repair and operation of equipment.
While nearly all duties can be completed within the core hours of work, limited shift work and on-call duties may be required.
*Qualifications you will need to succeed in this position:*
* A relevant Journeyperson ticket. Some examples of tickets relevant to the work at Canadian Light Source include Steamfitter / Pipefitter, Plumber, Metal Fabricator, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic, and Industrial Mechanic.
* At least six years experience in related systems or facilities.
* As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you must be a strong team player, willing to learn new skills and technologies through on the job training.
* The ability to work with minimal supervision in a safe and respectful manner is required.
* Effective interpersonal communication skills are necessary in order to work with a diverse staff and visiting researchers.

*Salary, Benefits, and Parks:*
This position falls within the scope of the Unifor Local 609 Collective Agreement. Th_e annual starting salary for this position will be $78,664_ and the current full annual salary range for the role is $78,664 to $92,043.
