Pelee Island Transportation Company operates the Pelee Islander and Pelee Islander II ferries between Pelee Island and the Mainland from April to December.
*Responsibilities*
· Conduct a navigational watch per Watchkeeping Procedures, Code of Nautical Procedures and Practices, Collision Regulations and Company Standing Orders; when in charge of the navigational watch, is responsible for the safe navigation of the ferry in accordance with Company Policy, Standing Orders, watchkeeping procedures and collision regulations.
· Orientation and training of crew per the Safety Management System.
· Load, unload, moor and secure the vessel; ensure passenger safety and welfare.
· Ensure freight is loaded on the deck securely and in compliance with company policy.
· Maintain navigational charts, list of lights, radio aids to marine navigation, notices to Mariners etc.
· Other duties as assigned.
*Qualifications, Experience and Abilities*
· A Valid TC Watchkeeping Mate certifate
· Marine Emergency Duties ? Advanced Fire Fighting, Basic Safety and Proficiency in Survival Craft
· Advanced Marine First Aid
· Specialized passenger safety management
· Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate
· Valid Canadian passport; Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status.
· Ability to perform high physical demands including:
o Regular need to climb stairs
o Lifting up to 50lbs
o Ability to stand for 2 hours at a time
o Ability to climb up to 12ft ladders
· Ability to read, write, understand and speak English.
· Proficient with Microsoft applications; experience with Helm or ABS ship management system is an asset
· Preferred applicants possess initiative, are analytical problem solvers, have a team-oriented work style and a track record for safety at work .
