Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience. Tasks: Compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of workpieces . Inspect final products. Set up machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders. Test prototypes and production tools. Instruct apprentices. Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Program CNC machine tools. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Realize machine castings to make metal molds, core boxes and precisely shaped models. Set up and operate electrical discharge machines (EDM). Lay out, shape and assemble patterns of metal, wood, plastic and other materials from blueprints, models or templates. Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining. Set up and operate conventional and computer controlled machine tools. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Tool and Die Maker Trade Certification. Mould Maker Trade Certification. Tool and Die Maker Red Seal Certificate. Computer and technology knowledge: Mastercam CAD/CAM. SolidWorks software. Metal mould-making experience: Injection moulds. Tool and die fabrication experience: Gauge blocks. Jigs and fixtures. Metal cutting, forming or bending dies. Compound or progressive transfer dies. Forging die. Extrusion dies. Security and safety: Bondable. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Handling heavy loads. Attention to detail. Standing for extended periods. Own tools/equipment: Tools.
