Job details
Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Industrial. Manufacture. Tasks: Interpret welding process specifications. Operate manual or semi-automatic, fully automated welding equipment. Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes. Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications. Determine weldability of materials. Operate hoisting and lifting equipment. Operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products. Maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing and soldering equipment. Fit and weld parts together. Fit plate or sheet steel work. Fit and assemble components and machine parts to close tolerance. Fit and adjust parts. Fit and join sheet metal parts. Type of materials: Aluminum alloys. Stainless steel. Steel, iron and heavy metals. Titanium and special alloys. Welding techniques: Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) (TIG). Gas tungsten ARC (GTAW) (TIG). Equipment and machinery experience: Arc welding machine. Gas welding machine. Area of specialization: Custom fabrication. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Handling heavy loads. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Standing for extended periods.
