Job details
Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry. Work setting: Urban area. Clinic. Tasks: Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals. Examine patients' health condition to identify diseases and injuries . Help patients develop healthy habits, break old habits and reshape their approach to wellness. Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate medical treatment . Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health. Administer budget. Prescribe and administer medications and treatments. Participate on institutional committees. Perform and assist in routine surgery. Inoculate and vaccinate patients to prevent and treat diseases. Participate in health care policy and planning. Deliver babies and provide pre-natal and post-natal care. Advise patients on health care. Hire and train staff. Supervise staff. Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases to government authorities. Be the patient advocate. Co-ordinate or manage primary patient care. Provide acute care management. Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues. Provide emergency care. Supervise home care services. Perform human resources related duties such as personnel selection. Supervision: Staff in various areas of responsibility. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : College of Family Physicians Certification (CCFP). Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC). Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities. Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE I and MCCQE II). Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Dependability.
