Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate. Work site environment: Noisy. At heights. Confined spaces. Work setting: Construction. Tasks: Assemble and install elevators, escalators, moving walkways and dumbwaiters. Inspect wiring connections, control panel hookups, door installations and alignments and clearances of cars and hoistways. Read blueprints to determine work requirements . Install and wire electric and electronic control system devices. Instruct apprentices. Install, test and adjust safety control devices. Test operation of newly installed equipment. Adjust valves, ratchets, seals, brake linings and other components. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Elevating devices mechanic. Elevator Constructor and Mechanic Trade Certification. Elevator Mechanic (non-construction) Trade Certification. Canadian Elevator Industry Educational Program. Technical Standards Safety Authority (TSSA) Certification. Equipment and machinery experience: Install and wire electronic control systems. Dumbwaiters. Escalators. Hydraulic elevators. Moving walkways. Traction elevators. Disability elevators. Security and safety: Basic security clearance. Criminal record check. Driver's validity licence check. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Handling heavy loads. Standing for extended periods.
