Education: Bachelor's degree. Mining and mineral engineering. Geological/geophysical engineering. Work site environment: Outdoors. Cold/refrigerated. Confined spaces. Hot. Work setting: Rural area. Tasks: Supervise and co-ordinate the work of technicians, technologists, survey personnel and other engineers and scientists. Determine the appropriate means of safely and efficiently mining deposits. Advise on drilling and blasting methods for mining, construction or demolition. Design, develop and implement computer applications for mine and supportive structure design and mapping, or for monitoring mine conditions. Plan and supervise the development, operation and maintenance of mines. Prepare operations and project estimates, schedules and reports. Implement and co-ordinate mine safety programs. Supervision: 5-10 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) by a provincial or territorial association. Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) by a provincial or territorial association. Computer and technology knowledge: MS Excel. MS Outlook. Mining technology. Mining experience: Surface mines or quarries. Area of work experience: Evaluate work environments, programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury. Installation, maintenance and inspection of equipment or facilities. Operations or production. Project management. Project planning. Specialization or experience: Specialized environmental skills and knowledge. Mining design specialization: Mine services. Blasting and materials handling. Mining equipment and machinery design.
